Abstract
This is the first of a series of three papers to be published in the Journal of Integrated Care Pathways addressing the importance of a strategic infrastructure to support the advancement of integrated care pathways (ICPs) as a vehicle for care delivery. The series will discuss the need for effective tools to support implementation and the importance of spreading and sustaining improved practice. The papers have been written in response to a presentation given at the Integrated Care Pathways 2004 conference, and will provide readers with an opportunity to explore the concepts in more depth.
