Abstract
Admission and discharge integrated care pathways (ICPs) were developed within a Mental Health Service for Older People (MHSOP). Aims were identified and following a pilot the ICPs were fully implemented into the admission and discharge processes. The development of the ICPs and the evaluation of their success were explored. Although the development of the ICPs resulted in improvements in the service, ICPs were found to be much more complex in implementation than their apparent simple structures would suggest.
