Abstract
To address the absence of explicit installation requirements for OPGW cables in transmission line crossing areas, a numerical simulation model of a conventional tower was developed on a finite element simulation platform to analyze the surrounding electric field distribution characteristics. The effects of different OPGW types and installation heights on the cable surface electric field strength and the 50 Hz ground-level electric field strength were systematically evaluated. The results show that the surface electric field strength of the OPGW cable is inversely proportional to its cross-sectional area at a given installation height. Comprehensive analysis indicates that the appropriate installation height of OPGW cables in crossing areas should be maintained within the range of 6–10 m.
