Abstract
Infection control nurses work to ensure practice is evidence-based, thereby minimising infection risks. There is, however, a gap between theory and practice in infection control at clinical level. Link nurse groups have been used in an attempt to ensure practice is evidence-based.
This article describes a research study that examined the efficacy of an infection control link nurse programme, which had an educational programme based upon adult learning theory, delivered using an action-research approach. Results of the study are described in subsequent articles.
