Helping people with learning disabilities to feel good about themselves: a brief report on a group to improve skills in relaxation, assertiveness an self- confidence
This paper reports on a group of eight individuals with learning disabilities who wanted to develop their skills in areas of relaxation, assertiveness and self- confidence. Each of these areas was covered in a block of four I hourly sessions for a I2 week period. The group was devised and run by four individuals from Health and Social Services.
The paper includes a description of the session contents and teaching methods and demonstrates how individuals developed during the course based on different evaluation methods. It also highlights future plans for improving skills even further.
