Abstract
Eric Dunning studied under Elias and Neustadt and was appointed by the latter to lecture in sociology. He remained in Leicester throughout his academic career, eventually attaining a Chair in Sociology. He is a prominent figure in the sociology of sport and has lectured widely throughout the world. This interview sheds light on an important chapter in the development of British sociology and the unique working relationship between Elias and Neustadt. Remarkably, it is one of the first attempts to assess the Leicester tradition of sociological activity.
