Abstract
Eileen Gambrill has criticized the RAE (Research Assessment Exercise) process on the basis of her experience as one of eight non-UK experts advising the Social Policy and Administration and Social Work panel. Her criticisms have some validity, especially with regard to the role of non-UK experts. However, other comments give a misleading picture of how the panels operated.
