Abstract
TRITIUM is produced naturally by the interaction of cosmic rays with the atmosphere and in nuclear reactions in rock. Large quantities of tri tium are produced artificially in the nuclear industry and during the testing and use of thermonuclear weapons. Tritium enters the hydrological cycle and is incorporated into organic substances, including tissues, and becomes one sources of internal radiation of man.
Radiation is a cause of mortality and morbidity. Much can be done to reduce the possible level of irradiation due to tritium by careful control of indus trial processes using or producing tritium and by not testing or using thermonuclear weapons in the atmos phere.
