An equation is presented which attempts to predict food energy intake in groups of elderly people in local authority homes, from a knowledge of six factors viz: sex, marital status, bodyweight, ideal bodyweight, height and home size. About 41 % of total variation in energy intake was accounted for by the six variables. Energy intake was not significantly influenced by age or by home per se.
