Abstract
The writer believes that the salvage of food waste is approaching a crossroads owing to the coming removal of controls on conventional animal feeding stuffs. He wonders whether food waste will travel on the " up " road or whether in a free market it will be driven to the " down " road. Consequently, he has endeavoured to provide a comprehensive review of the subject so that all its aspects may be brought within the arena of discussion.
