Abstract
After preparing the nano-magnesium hydroxide/glass fiber/nitrile butadiene rubber composite via the melt blending method by using nitrile butadiene rubber, glass fiber, and nano-magnesium hydroxide, we have studied its physical-mechanical properties and thermo-oxidative ageing capability, as well as its thermo gravimetric and combustion performances. Our results suggested that the addition of nano-magnesium hydroxide and glass fiber could improve the tensile strength, maximum elongation, hardness and compression set of composite. With expanded ageing time during the tests, the internal structure of composite was gradually labile and the number of protuberant glass fiber was increased. We have also found that both nano-magnesium hydroxide and GF could efficiently enhance the anti-ageing characteristic, thermostability and flame retardancy of composite. The comparison showed that nano-magnesium hydroxide possesses better heat and flame resistance while glass fiber presents better anti-ageing characteristic, so the coordinated usage of both two filling materials could significantly expand the working life of target composite.
