Abstract
This colloquium explores the concept of container schools as an innovative, cost-effective and sustainable educational model in Telangana, India. Addressing infrastructural challenges in remote areas, this initiative repurposes shipping containers into mobile classrooms, integrating digital learning, vocational training and eco-friendly solutions like solar energy and rainwater harvesting. The study examines their economic viability, social impact and pedagogical innovation, highlighting challenges such as regulatory constraints and infrastructural limitations. Drawing on global examples and policy frameworks, it discusses the potential for scalability and replication in similar contexts worldwide. The author advocates for government recognition, public–private partnerships and sustainability measures to enhance the success of container schools. Ultimately, scholars and policymakers are invited to consider container schools as a transformative model for educational accessibility in underprivileged regions.
