Abstract
This paper offers a reflection on the study of children and childhood in sociology, taking inspiration from A. F. Davies’ article ‘The child's discovery of social class.’ Using Davies’ work as a reflective springboard, the paper explores key contemporary ideas and approaches to understanding children and their perspectives as well as the influence of the sociology of childhood beyond the discipline itself – specifically its central role in advancing the study and understanding of children experiencing family violence.
