Abstract
The difficulties of adopting the air quality standards of the previous adminis tration in the Ukraine are described in this communication. The problems result from the current harsh economic situation and the earlier lack of policy for the indoor environment in dwellings. Over the last few years, National Laws concerning public health, labour protection and the control of atmos pheric air pollution have been established. They provide the legal basis for working out the national indoor and outdoor air quality standards. These stan dards have to consider not only chemical species, but also many hazardous physical and biological factors.
