Abstract
A numerical technique has been developed to predict the path of pollutant particles exhausted by a ventilation system from a control space. A simulated contaminant source located inside an indoor environment was used to investi gate the indoor air quality. The proposition explored was that a measure of indoor air quality was the efficiency of a ventilation system which minimized the residence time of polluted particles indoors which in turn could be quanti fied in terms of the age of individual particles. The age of particles in this study, as a time-dependent parameter, was calculated using a residence time model. Finally, the concentration fields caused by an indoor pollution source and the effects of particle strenght and source location on indoor air quality were examined.
