Abstract
A quantitative method for the determination of bis(chloromethyl) ether in laboratory air is presented. Preconcentration of air samples on Tenax GC was followed by gas chromatographic-high resolution mass spectrometric analysis with selected ion monitoring of CH 2Cl+ at m/z 48.9844. This is a common fragment ion in the mass spectra of both bis(chloromethyl) ether and the inter nal standard dichloroethane. The method was sensitive to parts per billion levels of bis(chloromethyl) ether in air using a 10-litre sample.
