Abstract
Radon has been observed in the air of the 15 UD Pelle tron facility under different meteorological conditions, varying through the height of the Pelletron tower and in areas with and without air conditioning. The radon con centration in air-conditioned rooms in the inner part of the tower has been observed to be slightly greater than in the non-air-conditioned rooms towards the outside. The concentration of radon varied with height and mete orological parameters as well as with the time of day. Radon levels reached a maximum in the early morning hours and a minimum in the afternoon. Radon concen trations were found to change with changing seasonal conditions. The ratio of maximum to minimum values for indoor radon concentrations was found to vary in the range of 2-5 in all the three seasons, but the winter-to- rainy season ratio was slightly greater than that for sum mer. The Pelletron tower was suitable for a study of changes in radon levels with respect to height. Variation of radon concentration with climatic changes, hourly variations, and variation at different levels in the inner and outer parts of the tower were measured.
