This article is a talk given at the 2024 ICGA ‘Chess History, Experiments, and Search Symposium’. It reports on an issue with 1974 use of the CDC 6600 machine, some personal recollections, and notable milestones occurring at the 3rd World Computer Chess Championship at Linz in 1980, in particular the appearance of the Chess Machine Belle, and Claude Shannon's presentation of the championship winner award, later to be called the Shannon Trophy.
