Abstract
This paper presents the use of different automated optimisation procedures in the design of the magnetic system for a Caesium frequency standard. During the design of the system two optimisations have been performed: one concerning the shimming of a high homogeneity solenoid magnet and another one regarding the two permanent magnet dipoles that are used for the selection of the Caesium atoms. In this last case a finite element magnetostatic solver and a code for the ray tracing of Caesium atoms have been used in conjunction to evaluate the objective function of the optimisation.
