A formula is presented for computing the torque transmitted by synchronous radial couplings. This formula, which is based on a two-dimensional analysis of the coupling, is expressed as a finite sum of elementary functions. It is ideal for performing rapid parametric studies of coupling performance. It is demonstrated via application to a specific coupling geometry, and verified by use of two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). In addition, it is shown that accurate three-dimensional predictions can be obtained by scaling the two-dimensional data.
