Abstract
In this paper we present a procedure of investigation to the two dimensional electroelastic problem concerned with the excitation of harmonic waves in a piezoelectric half-space with the electrodes attached to the surface. It is predicted, namely that the electromechanical fields in the material exhibit singular behavior in the vicinity of the electrode edges, making these regions potentially dangerous for the integrity of the transducer, whether considered in mechanical or electrical terms. The two key concepts we shall use in the following discussion are the stress intensity factor and the charge intensity factor related, respectively, to the mechanical and electrical properties of the material being studied. The obtained results allow us to determine all the parameters of the propagating wave, and using the stress intensity factors and the density of charges, m it is possible to determine a critical value of the potential on electrodes.
