Comparison of Different Methods for Determining the Magnetostriction of Amorphous Ribbons

Abstract

The small angle magnetization rotation (SAMR) method for measuring the magnetostriction λ_s in soft magnetic amorphous ribbons is compared with results as obtained by a capacitance method, by a transversal susceptibility method, from strain gauge measurements but also estimating λ_s from the stress dependence of the hysteresis loop. There exist differences which can be explained either by a not well defined magnetization state or also due to the averaging procedure.
