Abstract
This paper describes the new nondestructive testing of tubular materials for defects. We have already reported experimental results about magnetic sensors using rotational magnetic flux [1]. The experimental results revealed that the range of defect detection was found to be broadened compared with conventional AC magnetic probes.
In this paper, this magnetic sensor is developed to detect a defect on a tubular conductor. In order to know the distribution of generated rotational magnetic flux, the boundary element method is employed. The analysis reveals the phenomenon occurring inside the tubular conductor and it becomes clear that this NDT method is available not only to detect a defect, but to find the position of a defect.
