Abstract
This report describes a magnetic suspension system for maglev transportation of medium and high speeds. The special configuration of this system provides inherent stable guidance forces. Important features of this system are surface mounted tracks with solid iron rails. A computing model reflecting dynamic and nonlinear properties was developed and the dynamic behaviour was simulated for a vehicle passing various track disturbances. The ferrite magnet excited prototype magnet was developed to provide a lift force of 7.5 kN for a three ton demonstration vehicle with four magnets built by IEM. The test results for the lift force have been measured in an experimental set-up.
