The Vehicle Propulsion & Guidance group of the Marine Express project has successfully conducted a unique underwater test of a linear motor car named as Marine Express 01. The first underwater model car Marine Express 01 has been propelled and levitated electromagnetically by a linear induction motor and run very quietly and smoothly along the watertight track of the linear motor in a water tank in our Laboratory at Kyushu University. This test has simply verified that the Project is possible, for linear motor cars had never before been operated underwater.
