Abstract
This paper presents applications of the harmonic balance finite element method (HBFEM). The HBFEM is a new method which is composed of the finite element method and the harmonic balance method. It can be effectively used to deal with a time-periodic electromagnetic field with hysteresis characteristics and eddy currents. Because the HBFEM is worked in the harmonic domain, the time variation does not need to be considered during calculation. Therefore, the procedure of the numerical analysis is almost the same as that of a static field. The results of the numerical analysis can provide flux distribution, vector potential A, flux density B and current density J for each harmonic component. Comparisons between the results of analysis and experiment are made.
