Multi-frequency impedance measurements have been applied to access the material fatigue degradation in a steel specimen during cyclic loading. With the aid of numerical simulation, the voltage values at ta pick-up coil are correlated to magnetic permeability variations inside the specimen, in an attempt to evaluate its performance for the monitoring of microstructural changes of the material. The electromagnetic solver used for the impedance calculations is based on a fast semi-analytical model, which allows fast and precise solution of the direct problem.
