Abstract
A space truss, which was used as the roof of a theater in west China, suffered serious damage during strong earthquakes. An investigation was done on the cause of failure of the space truss. Both static and dynamic analyses were carried out to find the forces in the space truss under actual loads. Computer analysis based on Response Spectrum Method was carried out by assuming three types of calculating schemes. It is found that the supporting condition as well as the additional inertial effect of the supporting structure should not be ignored in seismic analysis.
