Abstract

■ Febrile convulsions are common in early childhood and may be the first sign of an illness.

■ Witnessing the convulsion and experiencing the subsequent admission is extremely stressful for parents.

■ Children's nurses need to identify the evidence for best practice in the management of febrile convulsions.

■ Parent education is an essential component of the management of care.
