Abstract
This section opens with a survey, by J. MONTAGUE, of research on psychiatry and mental health in Tunisia. The survey is followed by a description by J. NICOLAS of the Hausa Bori in Nigeria. This is an Islamic religious institution, exclusively for women, with three essential aspects: a cult of possession, a form of psychotherapy, and a performance or show. Next U. MACLEAN'S book on Magical Medicine, based on her experiences in Nigeria, is reviewed. Finally, a syncretic religious cult, the Zulu Zionism, is described by J. W. FERNANDEZ as a symbolic triumph over depressed circumstances.
