Abstract
T. L. CHIU, J. E. TONG, and K. E. SCHMIDT in an extensive mental health survey found that latah in Sarawak is more common than may be believed in judging by the literature. They noted differences in the frequency and sympto matology on comparison of the cultural groups in the population (Malay, Iban, and Chinese). The onset of latah is frequently associated with sexual dreams. The authors conclude that this disorder, which predominantly occurs in women, is closely tied to their social role.
