Abstract
This section opens with interesting interpretations by R. F. KRAUS of (a) the shamanistic seance, which is conceptualized as a collective dream, and (b) the psychology of the shaman, whose unique and controlled access to regression in the service of the ego seems to enable him to fulfill positive functions in his society. A critical review by M. K. OPLER of W. CHURCHILL'S book on male homosexuality follows. Opler feels that Churchill has failed to do adequate justice to the social causation of homosexuality. Lack of thorough knowledge and understanding of cultural anthropology and of cross-cultural data, he argues, may result in erroneous generalizations about man and society.
