Abstract
Studies of possession states have recently increased both in quantity and in quality. J. LOMBARD presents a good sociocultural analysis of a possession cult found among the Hausa of West Africa. The tribes of Senegal continue to be intensively studied by a group of psychiatrists and anthropologists led by Henri Collomb in Dakar. A. ZEMPLENI adds an important contribution to these studies with a detailed enquiry into the concepts of therapy and mental illness among the Wolof and the Lebou of Senegal. The relationship between schizophrenia and epilepsy has been the subject of growing interest in recent years. T. ASUNI and V. S. PILLUTLA report on the characteristics of a schizophrenia-like psychosis observed in eleven of forty-two Yoruba patients studied in the Aro Hospital in Western Nigeria.
