Abstract
On psychological testing M. IGA noted significant differences between those who attempted suicide and a control group. Modal personality characteristics of suicidal persons are identified. The author suggests that Japanese social structure contains elements which tend to produce and reinforce these elements in young individuals. Y. SASAKI presents a study of Japanese shamans focusing on (1) what kind of person becomes a shaman and through what process: (2) their religious function; and (3) the conversion reactions experienced by them.
