Abstract
Ritual trance in Brazil is a religious and cultural phenomenon that originates from Africa. It is practiced by several cults. AKSTEIN describes the Umbanda ceremonies and their psychological effects. He holds that the tension releasing effect of kinetic trance could be invaluable in the treatment of neurotic and psychosomatic disorders.
