Abstract
After 1 year of treatment using intensive behavioural methods a 7-year-old girl with autism has shown improvement, particularly in language. From being unable to repeat one sound, the child can now say over 150 different words and sounds and match words to objects. She is able to make her needs known orally, and her attention and concentration have increased greatly. She is able to obey requests. Self-stimulating behaviour has decreased. She is affectionate and happy the majority of the time. The Option method was used during the previous 2 years but it is suggested that the improvement results from the current treatment. A video has been made which illustrates the various methods of teaching and tracks the improvement of the child over the last 2 years. This paper reviews the methods used in the treatment.
