Joint pains are often attributed to the menopause and can be of varied aetiologies. This review discusses menopausal “arthritis”, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, connective tissue disease, fibromyalgia, gout, carpal tunnel syndrome and osteoporosis. Presentation, treatment and use of hormone replacement therapy are described.
