Abstract
Mental Health Literacy (MHL) is an essential and integral part of detecting and effectively managing mental health issues, given the imperative for concise and psychometrically robust scales. This study evaluated the reliability and validity of the Arabic translation of the Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire–Short Version (MHLq-SVa) for use among adults in Jordan. Mental health literacy is critical for addressing mental health problems, and a culturally adapted tool is essential for Arab populations. The study employed an anonymous online survey targeting adults in Jordan. A sample of 578 participants completed the study. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated acceptable construct validity, with all factor loads ranging between 0.43 and 0.834. The fit index values were as follows: RMSEA = 0.05, CFI = 0.925, GFI = 0.956, IFI = 0.956, and TLI = 0.946. Internal consistency was excellent, with composite reliability (ω ⩾ 0.788). The findings confirm the reliability and validity of the Arabic MHLq-SVa, making it a valuable tool for assessing MHL among Jordanian and broader Arab populations. This validated tool enables researchers to assess MHL, aiding effective interventions and awareness in Arab societies. It also contributes to cross-cultural psychology by informing the adaptation of psychometric instruments for diverse populations.
