Abstract
This study examined how HPV vaccination intentions in China are influenced by exposure to various information sources (e.g. media and interpersonal). We applied Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), and the Focus Theory of Normative Conduct (FTNC). An online survey was conducted with 279 Chinese adults. Results showed that news media use, perceived susceptibility, response-efficacy and self-efficacy from PMT, and injunctive norms from FTNC were positively related to HPV vaccination intention. In addition, we found that efficacy and injunctive norms had significant mediation effects between information sources and HPV vaccination intention. Perceived susceptibility played a mediating role between information from family, friends or sex partner and vaccination intention.
