Abstract
This study explores an overlooked aspect of the esports industry by examining how esports nostalgia influences spectators’ psychological well-being and travel-related behaviors. Employing a sequential mixed-methods approach, the research incorporates qualitative insights from 23 in-depth interviews and quantitative findings from 933 survey respondents. The results reveal that esports nostalgia arises from past experiences and an individual's proneness toward nostalgic feelings. Key psychological benefits associated with esports nostalgia include enhanced social support, increased pride, elevated enjoyment, and a strengthened sense of belonging. Additionally, the study identifies a significant link between these psychological benefits and esports-related travel behaviors, such as more significant interest in attending offline events and stronger travel intentions. The findings provide practical implications for esports managers and tourism marketers, suggesting strategies to leverage nostalgia in enhancing event participation and promoting esports-related tourism.
