Abstract
This paper reflects upon the identities of, and relationships between, physical education, sport and health as expressed in recent curriculum developments in England and Wales and Australia. Attention is drawn to notable contrasts between developments in terms of the definitions provided for physical education and health, but also similarities in the practices emerging in schools and critically, in the broader contexts in which these developments are set. The influence of the public and political privileging of particular definitions of sport, physical education and health is highlighted in considering their present and future identities in schools.
