Data were collected by means of a self-administered household survey conducted in an urban area in Greece, with a sample of 340 adults. A principal component analysis of the respon ses to the 26-item instrument revealed six motivational dimensions: (1) status, (2) relaxation, (3) intellectual, (4) social, (5) competition/achievement, (6) health/ fitness. Significant demographic differences in the motivational dimensions were identified. The practical implications of the results for those responsible for the delivery and management of sport related services are discussed.
