Abstract
This article uses the writings of Michel Foucault to analyse the mechanisms of power operative in the 1991 Anglican Bishop's statement Issues in Human Sexuality. While Foucault does not bequeath a systematic methodology his work vividly illustrates the processes through which 'the other' is constructed in the discourse of dominant groups. There are many disquieting examples of these discursive mechanisms operative in the Bishop's statement. The article demonstrates how a regulative world view is produced with the appearance of dispassionate objectivity.
