Abstract
The computer model IMPACT was developed at the “Centre de recherche en aménagement et développement” (CRAD). Universite Laval in the late 1980's. The model calculates traffic noise levels using original acoustical algorithms based on measured acoustical power levels of three types of vehicles: automobiles, heavy trucks, and buses. The model has also been used for research purposes to gain insight into the complex relationships involved in noise generation and propagation. Model applications have been made to traffic. industrial and railroad noise. In this study, the IMPACT model is used as an assessment method for predicting traffic noise levels and for evaluating noise barrier effectiveness.
