Abstract
In general, the acoustic effect in a room with a circular plan or a domed ceiling would never be satisfactory and could be even worse for a hemispherical room. Consultation was requested on the acoustic design for a circular screen cinema with such a unique shape after the completion of the reinforced concrete shell. The measures taken were some special absorbing and scattering treatment, i.e., fiberglass sleeve tubes and flotation toys of extra light weight material were used to decorate the walls and ceiling in order to reduce the focusing and creeping effects and to control the reverberation time. Thus, a satisfactory acoustic performance of the cinema and also a good interior appearance have been achieved.
