Abstract
This paper discusses the adhesive wear type “smearing” in small radial cylindrical roller bearings with combined axial and radial load. A reference test with high radial and axial static load leads to reproducible smearings. The impact of speed, starting oil temperature, axial and radial load as well as running-in is investigated with a seperate parameter variation. The measurement of the roller and roller set slip together with the damage analysis enables the distinction between roller-roller and roller-ring smearing.
