Abstract
Crack and crack-free Ni–W alloy coatings were prepared on 45 steel surface via the electroplating method with adjusted solution composition. The friction and wear properties of the two coatings were studied under dry and oil-lubricant conditions. The research results show that compared with the crack-free Ni–W alloy coating, the crack Ni–W alloy coating exhibits a lower friction coefficient and wear rate as a result of surface texturing under both dry and oil lubrication conditions. The wear rate was reduced by 23% and 10% under dry and oil lubrication conditions, respectively.
