Abstract
Hydrodynamic bearings (HDBs) have been used for data storage applications because of low friction and shock resistance. However, load capacity of HDB is substantially reduced with a decreasing dimension. Few studies have investigated the behavior of the HDB with its inner diameter smaller than Ø = 2 mm. Therefore, the aim of this study was to efficiently analyze the performance of the miniature journal bearings Ø = 0.6 mm with asymmetrical herringbone grooves. To reduce the number of full-factorial experimental design tests, the Taguchi methodology is used to find out the optimal design parameters of the two-step Herringbone-grooved journal bearings.
