Abstract
A numerical model for the evaluation of fretting wear in rough point contact has been developed. The Ciavarella–Jäger principle was applied for solving the partial slip problem, wear was estimated with Archard’s wear model, and allowance is made for elastic–perfectly plastic material deformation. Surface profiles are updated with wear data in simulations. The effect of load parameters and different types of wavy surface profiles on wear behaviour are analysed and discussed. The tangential force divided by the product of the friction coefficient and the normal force dominates the wear process of surfaces, because, essentially, it controls the size of the slip and stick zones.
