Abstract
This article briefly explains why the lack of interest in the history of their own field by advertisers is not accidental. It then examines some sources, mainly from the 1920s and 30s, from a Melbourne perspective. Agencies (Paton; Goldberg; Patterson; Berry-Price; Weston; J Walter Thompson) are looked at. Advertising associations, trade publications, media organizations and other material is surveyed.
